A "Never Outs" list is a handy tool to ensure you never run out of essential items in your home. This list helps you stay organized, save time, and avoid those last-minute trips to the store. Here's how to create your own "Never Outs" list:

Step 1: Identify Your Essentials
Start by identifying the items you use regularly and can't afford to run out of. These could include:
Pantry Staples: Flour, sugar, onion, garlic, veggies and spices.
Household Supplies: Toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, laundry detergent.
Personal Care Items: Shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, deodorant.
Health and Wellness: Medications, vitamins, first aid supplies.

Low Tox Options:
Start by making some of your own supplies
Step 1: Create Your List
Organize your "Never Outs" list by category (e.g., pantry, household supplies, personal care). You can create a physical list to keep on your fridge or a digital list on your phone for easy access. Make sure to update the list regularly as you use items and restock. Since I'm always on the go and I live with other people, we share a running list of supplies on Anylist. I love this app because you can share it with house mates, it remembers your items, you can create different lists, plus you can customize notes within your items. Find which method works for you. Having a visual white board in the kitchen may be helpful as well.

Step 2: Keep Inventory
Go through your home and take inventory of the items you currently have. Note how much of each item you have and how quickly you typically go through them. This will help you determine how often you need to restock. Personally, having my stock easily visible helps mee keep inventory. For example, keep your onions, garlic and potatoes in a visible basket in the kitchen; store your veggies in the door of the fridge; organize your pantry with your never outs at eye level.
Step 3: Set Minimum Quantities
For each item on your list, set a minimum quantity that you should always have on hand. For example, you might decide that you should always have at least two rolls of toilet paper or one extra bottle of shampoo. This ensures that you have a buffer and won't run out unexpectedly. No body wants to be on the throne and it's the last roll!
Step 5: Monitor and Restock
Keep an eye on your inventory and restock items as needed. When you notice that you're getting close to your minimum quantity for an item, add it to your shopping list. This proactive approach helps you stay prepared and avoid running out of essentials.
Step 6: Review and Adjust
Periodically review your "Never Outs" list to ensure it still meets your needs. As your lifestyle or preferences change, you may need to add or remove items from the list. Regularly updating your list ensures it remains relevant and useful. If you live with housemates or family, check in with the members who participate in the purchasing of goods for the home. Having these check ins will help keep everyone on the same page. Assigning certain products in the home for people may also be a strategy to delegate tasks for managing the home.
Let's face it, food is expensive these days. By keeping track of essential items, you can plan your budget more effectively. Buying in bulk or taking advantage of sales for items on your "Never Outs" can save you money in the long run. It also helps prevent impulse purchases, as you'll have a clear idea of what you need. This can also help avoid last-minute trips to the store and reduce temptation on ordering takeout which will cost you more at the end of the week. Maintaining your "Never Outs" saves you time and effort by reducing the frequency of shopping trips. Relieve the stress by knowing you have a handy stock of your essential items. Creating a "Never Outs" list is a simple yet effective way to stay organized and ensure you always have the essentials on hand. By following these steps, you can save time, reduce stress, and enjoy a more streamlined approach to managing your household supplies. It's a simple yet powerful tool for managing your household effectively. Happy organizing!
